Research

WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHY... this must be understood before creating HOW.

Over the years, I've accumulated valuable experience bridging knowledge gaps to achieve effective product designs. Here are some methods I've used to gather this crucial information.

It Starts with WHO

The first path of discovery often comes from the people themselves. What brings them joy, what helps them succeeded, and what stands in their way?

Areas of qualitative experience:

  • Key consumer interviews

  • Focus groups

  • In field observation

  • Concept validation

  • Product testing management

  • Pro user (beta team) management

Not all answers can be learned from a small group of people. Sometimes a large sample of the population is needed.

Areas of quantitative experience:

  • Survey design

  • Raw data analysis

  • Trend identification

  • Data presentation

Bringing it Together

Condensing data and observations into useful product requirements is where the rubber meets the road and is my greatest strength in product research. Perhaps it should not be surprising, data synthesis is the point where research, engineering, and design meet.
